Mount Vernon High School (VA)
Class of 1960 40th Reunion

General Information

When - Saturday, June 10, 2000

What / Where - An all day catered picnic at the Area 'A' 600 person covered pavilion facility and the surrounding grounds in Ft. Hunt Park (rain or shine); a leisurely site visit to the original MVHS site anytime during the picnic; and a monster evening dinner dance blowout at the Radisson Hotel Old Town (formerly Ramada), 901 N. Fairfax Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.

Who - Mount Vernon High School 1960 classmates, faculty, guests, and optimally, as many sister class schoolmates from the 1955 through 1965 classes as our banquet facility can accommodate. To this end, the Reunion Committee has invited every Class of 1960 classmate (and faculty) and sister class schoolmate whose postal address is known to us. We plan to mail RSVP registration packets to additional alumni as they are located, and the RSVP's the Committee mails to them will be accepted from them on a "first come, first served" basis until such time as we reach our maximum banquet facility capacity.

Faculty - MVHS 1960 faculty members and administration will be honored guests at our reunion, with the RSVP fee waived.

Accommodations - The Reunion Committee has negotiated with our banquet facility to reserve a limited block of reduced rate rooms ($114 per night for a single or a double). Rooms can be secured on your credit card. If you won't be staying with friends or relatives, or will not be making plans for accommodations at another facility, please call Radisson at 703-683-6000 (preferred) or 1-800-333-3333 ASAP, because these rooms are available also on a "first come, first served" basis.

Funding - Always a sensitive subject. Frankly, we are requesting slightly more ($75) from each attendee than we think we will need, in order to prevent being unexpectedly caught short. The Reunion Committee realizes that there can be significant travel and accommodation costs in addition to our reunion fee. However, we are conducting our own reunion; therefore we are able to hold a multi event reunion with costs comparable to a single event reunion run by an outside service. We will vote at the banquet on how to handle our expected surplus funds. Possibilities include a prorated rebate to each paid attendee, a charitable donation, or letting it ride in an interest bearing account until our next reunion! Your funds will be returned in full if the Reunion Committee is informed of your intent to cancel by May 1, 2010.

Contributions - The Reunion Committee will be happy to accept ( and is somewhat dependent on) additional voluntary donations to help us stay even with our occasional unexpected costs, or a possible shortfall in attendance. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Memorabilia - Please order T-shirts, class photographs and event videos now*.
1. T-shirt - Gray with maroon text. Submit your design ideas for their appearance, front and back, on the back of the bio sheet.
A free T-shirt will be given away to all those whose winning ideas are incorporated into the final design.
2. Class photo - An 8 x 10 professionally made keepsake class reunion color photograph.
3. Event video - A memorable 2 hr tape taken throughout the day and evening, with music, captions and individual interviews.
This tape is actually longer in its original version, but is edited down to capture the best moments of our reunion.
*T-shirts will be distributed at the reunion (or we can ship). Photos and videos are shipped post-reunion in a prepaid mailer.
